The following is a note from the Goofy Ball organisers which gives detail on how it impacts the charity as a whole
The departure of the Dreamflight trip every October is a special experience – the sight of 192 children setting off on their holiday of a lifetime is exciting and inspiring. In 2011 Northamptonshire businesswoman Kathy Suter watched the 16 local children and the adult escorts of the Goofy Group set off on the trip and was inspired to raise money for this very deserving charity. Several months and a lot of hard work later- over 300 guests assembled at the Saints Rugby Ground to enjoy the first Goofy Ball on Friday 18th May.
The evening opened with a champagne reception with Jazz by Tangent setting up a great atmosphere. The musical entertainment continued with a Barber shop quartet during dinner and the fantastic Accrington Stanley who got everyone up on the dance floor. The undisputed stars of the evening were 2 children from the Goofy group 2011; Charlie Murgatroyd from Leicester and Lewis Grant from Northampton. With huge aplomb they stood up after dinner to tell the guests about their experience of Dreamflight and what the trip had meant to them. After the moving speech from the youngsters , the auction went with a swing- raising a magnificent £12000, with some fantastic prizes including holidays in Barbados and the Gambia.
The music continued and the guests danced til the early hours to the band and Matt Potter’s disco. Once all money was counted from the evening, including the raffle ,silent and main auctions; the final total raised was over £22700; enough to send 6 local children on Dreamflight 2012. The total was boosted by a donation from Barclaycard organized by committee member Jo Wittich under the community funding £ for £ scheme.
Hard work from the committee especially Anne Hickey and Liege Buckler ensured that everyone had a great time while raising for money for our favourite charity.
