Dreamflight escort Karen has come up with a fantastic way of helping to raise money for the 2010 Dreamflight trip as well as gaining immense personal benefits….and it’s not a sports challenge!
On 1st January 2010 after 32 years of smoking, Karen decided to set herself a personal challenge and conjure up all of her willpower to quit the cigarettes! WELL DONE KAREN! Quitting smoking is not an easy feat and can involve withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, headaches and insomnia.
Despite the struggle and mental determination involved, Karen says ‘my challenge will be nothing compared the challenges faced by the Dreamflight children on a daily basis’
A small reminder of the huge benefits of this challenge:
Twenty-four hours after quitting smoking, your lungs begin clearing out mucus and other smoking debris.
Forty-eight hours after quitting smoking, your body is free of all nicotine and your sense of taste and smell greatly improves.
Seventy-two hours after quitting smoking, your bronchial tubes will relax, allowing you to breathe easier, and you will have more energy
Karen has so far reaped all of these benefits and by now, her blood circulation has also improved!
If Karen can manage to keep this up for another 6 months, her coughing, wheezing and breathing difficulties will begin to improve. After five years, her chances of experiencing a heart attack will reduce by a staggering 50%.
Karen hopes to raise £500 towards the trip this year, which will pay for 5 transit seats, used to transfer children to and from their wheelchairs. To support Karen in achieving this target and to encourage her wonderful efforts, please visit www.justgiving.com/karen-childs
Well done Karen, keep up the good work!
